Directors reported on the 2023 National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) PowerXchange conference and annual meeting. President Joe Biden delivered video remarks March 8 to more than 10,000 electric co-op leaders gathered in Nashville, Tennessee, where he addressed the Inflation Reduction Act with components to help co-ops build more clean energy capacity and reduce carbon emissions.
General Manager's Report
General Manager Tony Schacher, along with Salem Electric directors Joe Van Meter, Jeff Anderson, and Dave Bauer, attended the Keizer City Council meeting March 20 and provided comment on the proposed ordinance to replace the utility franchise agreements.
Salem Electric is talking with a property management company about installing a public electric vehicle (EV) charging station at a West Salem apartment complex. The complex currently has eight EV owners as tenants. This would be the first installation of a Salem Electric-owned public charging station. Data from this pilot program would help determine costs and potential revenues, assist us in determining public EV charging rates, and provide information about EV charging load.
