As I look back on my first year as a new member of the Salem Electric Board of Directors, I have found the role is much more complex than I originally thought. The initial training program is immersive, and while I have learned a lot about the electric utility industry, I have much more knowledge to gather. It has been and will continue to be a journey of continuous learning.
The monthly board meetings merely scratch the surface. Attending virtual and in-person workshops, classes, and conferences, and networking with other directors from across the country has given me a deeper understanding of the effort it takes to keep the lights on.
The familiar adage, “keep the lights on,” has taken on new meaning as I witness firsthand the dedication and professionalism of the Salem Electric staff. Meeting with these individuals has underscored the collective commitment to maintaining dependable electricity service.
