Salem Electric Selects NRECA Youth Tour Delegate

February 03, 2020

Salem Electric is pleased to announce that Griffen Hubbard has been selected as Salem Electric’s 2020 NRECA Youth Tour delegate.

Each June over 1,500 students from electric co-ops throughout the United States attend the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. To apply, candidates must submit an application (including a 500-word essay), live within Salem Electric’s service area, and participate in panel interviews with local business members. This year’s panel included Danielle Bethell, Keizer Chamber of Commerce; Aaron Persons, Claggett-Creek Middle School; Erik Andersson, SEDCOR; and Tony Schacher, Salem Electric General Manager.

“I enjoy the selection interviews because I am consistently impressed by the quality students who apply, this year was no exception,” says Schacher.

Hubbard is a junior at McNary High School and is one of the youngest students to service as ASB President in McNary’s 54-year history. He plans to run for ASB president again as a senior in 2020-21 and hopes to attend the U.S. Naval Academy after graduation to pursue a career in engineering or law and government.

“Griffen will be a great addition to the 2020 Youth Tour. His student government experience and volunteerism in the Keizer community have prepared him for this experience. I know he will do a great job representing Salem Electric,” says Schacher.
