Safety has always been and still remains at the forefront of everything we do at Salem Electric—safety of our employees, members, and the communities we serve. Along with proper education and training, effective safety measures help ensure every member of the co-op family returns home to their loved ones at the end of each day. Our concern for safety extends to our members and the general public as well, providing education on electrical safety, hazards associated with overhead and underground lines, and how to prepare for emergencies and extended outage events.

Salem Electric was recently recognized by the Northwest Public Power Association for our dedication to safety, receiving a second place safety award in the category of 70,001–100,000 hours of exposure during 2020. Safety contest awards are based on a review of each utility’s safety record, the number of recordable injury/illness cases, and the annual lost work days.

Safety doesn’t happen by accident, it’s a conscious decision that Salem Electric employees make every day to continue to provide the safe, reliable, and affordable power our members have come to expect.
