Salem Electric is committed to providing safe, reliable electricity to our community. By taking simple precautions, we can avoid electrical fires, injury, and power outages. Here are some tips to stay safe around electric equipment:

Stay Away From Downed Power Lines

If you see a downed line, keep a safe distance from the line and call 911. Never touch a downed line. Always consider power lines live or energized.

Keep Objects Away From Power Lines

Look up before raising a ladder or pole to make sure it is not within 10 feet of any power lines. Mylar (metallic) balloons should not be released into the air. If they come into contact with power lines they can cause electric shock, outages, or even fires.

Move Over For Emergency and Utility Crews

If you see utility crews or other emergency personnel on the side of the road, please slow down and move over when possible. Together, we can keep our crews safe.
