From Ice Storms to Extreme Heat—We’re Ready

As we began 2021, I was cautiously optimistic that life would slowly start to return to normal. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans. In February our system was devastated by an ice storm. Downed trees, limbs, and equipment, all covered in ice, created dangerous and challenging conditions for our line crews. With the help of mutual aid crews, power was restored to most of our members within 48 hours of the storm.

Record breaking high temperatures in June brought a new set of challenges. As members turned on their air conditioning units to keep cool, there was a huge demand on our distribution system. Power had to be rerouted to stabilize the extreme loads and ensure members didn’t lose power.

No matter the weather condition, our staff was ready to respond. I am incredibly honored to lead such a talented group of employees who are committed to our goal of keeping the lights on. I have no idea what 2022 may bring but there’s one thing I know—we’re ready for it. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you for another year.

Happy holidays and best wishes for a happy and safe new year.
